Debt Settlement USA

Setup Fee: 14%
Monthly Fee: None
Settlement Fee: None
Application Fee: $29

TASC Members: No
BBB Complaints: 80

Debt Settlement USA is one of the larger settlement companies in the nation. They have over 20,000 clients, which means you aren’t going to receive the personalized service you might get with a smaller company. They also have a lot of BBB complaints, although this is to be somewhat expected with their size. They also charge a $29 application fee upfront, which is a bit strange. I’m not sure if that is refundable if you are denied service.

I was an custmer of this company althrough the complay did help me settle 2 bills. My last bill the company could not settle, I ended up going to court to make payment arraingments. When I contact the company about receiving some of my money back because they did not get me a settlement. (Their policy stated if they do not get you a settlement then they do not receive any money for that service). The company came up with excueses about returning some of my money. I have not heard from my so called advisor since making payment arraingments with on company. They are not true to their word and I will not refere any one to this company.

They strung me along for 6 MOS till I finally got fed up. They say they will negotiate your debt, wich is not the case. They are glad to take your money every month, but did not work on any of my accounts during the duration of my membership.

I had $7000 dollars in my account for over 4 MOS, and they did nothing with it. I ended up talking to the collection companies, and settled myself, for just a little more than what DSUSA “claims” they can do.

If you are looking to in to this company, things are bad for you, just like they are for me, but take it from me, start saving on your own, without paying someone to do it for you, and settle yourself. I could have settled another credit card, for what I paid them for the last 6 MOS. $289 per month whent to them, and $115 when into my own account, wich was used to settle debt. I managed to come up with some extra money from work bonuses, and selling some stuff on the interenet, but they did nothing with the money.

Waste of time, waste of money. Beleive me, they will tell you everything you want to hear, I was baited right in, thye told me exaclty what I needed to hear. Most collections compaanies, most of mine, will not even deal with them, dont believe them when they start telling you, thats just what the collections companies tell you, its all a waste of money and time.

Yeah, they are a scam. I would know. But hey, you get to hear what you want to hear, right?

I would have been better off dealing with the creditors myself. The negotiator I got stuck with was unbelievably belligerant. With my last debt, he told me I would have to settle the full amount. I contacted the creditor myself and settled for much less than that. When I told him that he said, “I did NOT tell you that. You hear what you want to hear.” Previously when I had requested a different negotiator who was more professional in demeanor he said he would tell his manager, but “the people around here don’t take kindly to clients who request another negotiator.” I can’t believe I spent a couple thousand dollars for the kind of verbal abuse I tolerated with this company.
